Section for Chemistry and Technology of Fibers and Textiles covers textile technology and engineering, with a multidisciplinary research approach aimed at developing new materials and technologies. Research involves using nanotechnologies to obtain new fibrous materials such as bacterial and nanofibrillated cellulose and textile products with Ag and Cu nanoparticles synthesized according to green chemistry principles. The development of special textile materials is realized by the application of nanotechnology (self-cleaning and UV protection textiles), plasma technology (improvement of acoustic properties, improvement of dyeing and printing effects), and other specific functionalizations, such as antimicrobial treatment. Based on the sustainable development and circular economy concept, work is being done on the development of cleaner production of textile materials, the use of textile waste as a resource for the production of cellulose fibers and films, as well as the utilization of recycled materials for the sorption of pollutants from water. Current trends in the field of clothing textiles have imposed the need for research on the quality of textile materials and the comfort of materials and clothing. Research is also carried out in the field of engineering design, both conventional 2D and special 3D textile materials.
