Serbian Chemistry Olympiad

On June 4 and 5, 2021, the seventh Serbian Chemistry Olympiad for secondary school students was held in Belgrade, organized by the Serbian Chemical Society, the Petroleum Industry of Serbia, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Belgrade, the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of the University in Niš and the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of the University of Novi Sad. The competition was held at the Faculty of Chemistry. This competition is also a qualifying competition for the 53rd International Chemistry Olympiad, which will be held online from July 25 to August 2. The organizer of the International Chemistry Olympiad is Japan.

The competition consisted of eight theoretical tasks. The preparation of the test lasted 5 hours, just like at the International Chemistry Olympiad. The following participated in the preparation and implementation of the competition: Dr. Dušan Sladić, Dr. Niko Radulović, Dr. Vidak Raičević, Dr. Irena Novaković, Dr. Aleksandra Margetić, Dr. Gordana Krstić, Dr. Srđan Tufegdžić and Miloš Pešić.

12 competitors took part, who qualified based on the results achieved at the national competition. We list the awarded and commended competitors, as well as their mentors. The first four students qualified for the International Chemistry Olympiad, and the fifth-placed student is the reserve. Tasks with solutions can be seen on the website www.mojahemija.org.

All the students who qualified for the International Chemistry Olympiad are successful competitors for many years. Last year, Jovan Marković won a bronze medal at the 52nd International Chemistry Olympiad, and won one first and two second prizes at national chemistry competitions. This year, Lazar Savić won a silver medal at the 55th International Mendelian Chemistry Olympiad and second prize at the national chemistry competition. Vasilije Pantelić won a bronze medal at the 52nd International Chemistry Olympiad last year, and a silver medal at the 55th International Mendelian Chemistry Olympiad this year. He won one first and two third prizes at national chemistry competitions. Nevena Stojković won another prize at the national competition in chemistry. All attend schools that are among the most successful in chemistry competitions.
